Earlier this month I finished knitting my Kordy Sweater! Designed by Sachiko and Kiyomi Burgin for their book Moon and Turtle, this cozy colorwork yoke pullover is just my cup of tea.
I Love My Kordy Sweater
I fell in love with the Kordy Sweater in the previews for the book. The colorwork yoke is graphic and bold, and I appreciated that the pattern has both “short” and “tall” options. This made it easy to choose a size that worked well for my torso and arms without having to guess at the amount of yarn needed. The book shows the sweater modeled on both taller men and shorter women so the knitter is able to get a good idea of how the sweater might fit on different bodies.
I used the yarn called for in the pattern, Peace Fleece Worsted. It knits up like a dream and is quite cozy in the snow. I knew I wanted the gray as the base, as I don’t really have a lot of lighter sweaters, but I wasn’t sure what colors I wanted for my yoke. Thankfully, Mother of Purl yarn shop had a variety of colors in stock and I ordered Shaba Green, Latvian Lavender, and Patience Blue along with Georgia Rose and Palomino to see them in person.
I ended up not using Georgia Rose or Palomino. But the way the Patience Blue, Latvian Lavender, and Shaba Green play together in the yoke is delightful. The contrast between the light purple and gray is low, so they blend nicely. The green and blue play together well too.
I knit the 54″ size for about 4″ of positive ease. The tall length for the body which was perfect for me. I didn’t knit the sleeves as written, working the decreases a little faster. Overall I’m incredibly pleased with this sweater and how super cozy I was out in the snow.
