My 2022 Crafting Goals

Many years, I make goals of some sort, and many years, I don’t get anywhere close to them. Which is fine—that’s the point of goals, something to aim at, not necessarily to hit. I’m feeling pretty good about my 2022 crafting goals right now, but it’s only January.

But first, how’d those 2021 goals work out?

Yes, I did make goals last year. And largely didn’t achieve them. I didn’t really work on jeans at all, though I did sew a couple of pairs of Glebe Pants by Muna + Broad. I did sew a Seamwork Baz muslin. And I did sew one Style Arc Tara top and have another in progress… somewhere. I’m still unpacking my crafting room.

I started cutting out squares for a quilt. And started knitting my  Hitaspà . That’s it, that’s all I did (from my list of goals, that is, I did accomplish more than just those projects).

What are my 2022 crafting goals?

First and foremost, I want to reconnect with crafting. Last year was rough for me, and I know that I am not alone in that. There were many changes and upheavals and making things just fell by the wayside.

So I’m mostly focused on the process and less on the quantity of products. Is this a bit of a cop-out? Probably. Do I care? Absolutely not.

One way I’m really focusing on the enjoyment of it all is by joining the Laura + Allyson Party and joining in the fun. Chatting with people who are all excited about making things always gets my creative juices flowing, and this has been no exception. I’m playing along in the Yoke Along, working on my Kordy by Sachiko and Kiyomi Burgin from Moon and Turtle and loving… many seconds of it. I’m in stockinette body land and it’s not quite as engaging as I’d like it to be but steady progress is being made.

Fix- or Finish-It February

I also really would like to get a handle on the massive amount of WIPs or projects that need fixing “someday” this year. I’ve designated February as “Fix- or Finish-It February” with the idea that surely I can commit to not casting on or starting a new project for 28 whole days and instead wrap up some projects that are in-progress. I even got a little bit of a head start.

In an effort to maintain some steam on the body of my Kordy, I decided to also work on a different project and alternate between the two. In digging around my WIP bin (…the one of them that I can find), I came across a toe.

Of a toe-up sock. I couldn’t resist.

It was the toe of a toe-up sock, just sitting on the needles like I’d started it yesterday when in fact, I have no idea when I started it. Or even what pattern it was supposed to be. But after the counting the stitches and matching it up to a pattern I suspect may have been in mind, I continued on knitting. The pattern I’m using is Tiled Steps by Melissa Lemmons.

It’s a good foil to the stockinette body of a sweater, as there’s just enough going on to keep my interest but it also is easy to see progress quickly.

Other, slightly more specific 2022 crafting goals

I really do want to sew a quilt. I’m planning to sew together a couple of blocks from the pieces I’ve cut out already in hopes that it will keep me motivated to cut out about 1,000 more tiny squares.

I also want to sew jeans. And a jacket. In addition to the trench coat I had planned for 2021, I want to sew the Causeway Bomber Jacket. And finish that other Tara top.

I also want to crochet more this year. I do have two crochet projects in progress and also want may try to get to those Trailing Lace socks along with a Tarako Sweater by Nomad Stitches. And I am about to crochet an angry uterus for my teenager nibling because teenagers like those things.

So those are my 2022 crafting goals. I’m looking forward to finishing projects and reducing my various stashes over the year. Do you have any crafting goals for this year?
