Knitting and Crochet Blog Week, Day 3

Blog about someone in the fibre crafts who truly inspires you. There are not too many guidelines for this, it’s really about introducing your readers to someone who they might not know who is an inspiration to you. It might be a family member or friend, a specific designer or writer, indie dyer or another blogger. If you are writing about a knitting designer and you have knitted some of their designs, don’t forget to show them off. Remember to get permission from the owner if you wish to use another person’s pictures.

Oh my word. This could be the longest, most effusive blog post ever. Because there are so, so, so many people who inspire me in this craft. Okay. I’m going to add a challenge to this, to keep this post from getting too goopy—I have to do this in 50 words or less for each person. And this is very designer-centric—there’s an even greater number of crafters, in general, who inspire me. Ready…GO!

Amy Christoffers inspires me because: her designs are easy to knit and aesthetically charming, comfortable and slouchy but not sloppy; her attention to detail betrays her artist’s eye and each detail may seem finicky at first but is always, always worth it in the end.

Alexis Winslow inspires me because: she utilizes colors and stranded colorwork in upbeat and fashion-forward manners, while remaining true to classic and traditional sensibilities; in addition to being a fantastic designer, she’s dedicated to helping others as one-quarter of the Charity Sub team.

Melissa Wehrle inspires me because: “timeless” and “tailored” appear to be the impetus behind her design portfolio, a prolific collection of pieces one could wear again and again and again; to say I’m excited for her upcoming book is an understatement.

Allyson Dykhuizen inspires me because: unwavering in her ideals of what the marriage between knitting and fashion could be, her designs are always edgy and fun and have some wonderful element of technique to consider; even when I can’t picture myself wearing one of her designs, I admire her efforts.

I love Melissa’s designs, too, and thanks for introducing me to Charity Sub. What a great idea.

I love Charity Sub! Just a little bit of giving every month, and the causes they choose are always so inspiring.

  2. I love how you have an example of a garment by each of the people you admire. You are quite prolific!

I was surprised that I could do that, actually! I’d forgotten that I’d knitted the Berkshire Dolman and Loop tank when I started this post and then was all “well, I suppose there is a reason these are my inspirational designers.” πŸ˜€

  3. I so like what you’ve made and how dedicated you are to your faves!
