Pro-tip for everyone reading this: Don’t finish a project and think “Oh I’ll just block it tonight before I leave at 3:30 AM for the airport!” and then throw said project in a bucket of water. Because, inevitably, something will happen—such as your friends inviting you out for delicious sushi followed by a trip to the Chocolate Café—while your project is soaking, so you’ll have to beg a friend to block said project for you while you are away, because there’s not really any possible way that your project will finish drying in about four hours. And your cat will pull out the pins if you try to leave it blocking while you’re gone for four days. Or maybe this is just my life.
It’s not a bad life, to be certain, and mad props to Laura for blocking out my Live Oak Shawlette while I was in NYC last weekend. It blocked out wonderfully, if a bit small, but that’s because I’m an idiot who mistook her size 4 needles for size 5 needles and blithely knitted away before realizing her mistake.
The yarn is a bamboo-merino blend from Fresh from the Cauldron, in Jen’s “Music Sets My Soul On Fire” colorway. I’ve had this in my stash for a couple of years, and never quite figured out what to knit with it, until I decided to try it with Romi Hill’s pattern. I really love the way the pattern and the yarn played together. It’s dramatic but not schizophrenic, and would make a beautiful accessory over a neutral colored top.
Or whatever the intended recipient decides to do with it. That’s right, I knit this with another knitter in mind. I’d actually planned to knit this and send it to her when she was going through a particularly terrifying time a few months ago, but we know what they say about the best laid plans. I’m glad she’s safe and sound and healthy and will be able to receive this and wear it now.
I’ve got another shawl on the needles that’s almost done, and is also intended for someone else. I’ll probably finish it today while watching more Band of Brothers. This mini-series is amazing and wonderful and pretty much perfect for anyone who likes to play “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.”
Sooooo pretty! Great pattern+yarn combo. Your friend is very lucky!
I was pleasantly surprised that it worked out so well—it was one of those “well, let’s see how this works out” projects. 😀
Amazing colors and beautiful pattern!
Thank you! 🙂
[…] also knit two shawlettes for friends, a Leaf Peeper and a Live Oak. I’m hoping to mail these this week—I should have time to get to the post […]
That is a lovely shawl! Pretty yarn choice. 🙂
