I fell and fell hard off the yarn diet wagon yesterday. Well, not that hard, but certainly more than I thought I would.
It started with Creatively Dyed, as these things frequently do, and a skein of yarn that I kept picking up and putting back, contemplating and deciding against, before finally I just said “Screw it” and bought it.
Upon showing my score to some of my friends, there was a collective audible gasp, so I guess I chose wisely.
And then there was some beautiful Skaska Designs laceweight that I needed to buy. But I did figure out a pattern for it, the Icarus Shawl by Miriam Felton. Buying yarn for a project has got to count for something, right?
…and then there was the moment I completely LOST MY MIND and bought more fiber. FIBER. Unspun yarn. I’ve only managed to ever spin one bit of fiber. And then I coerced someone else into spinning up another braid, and I have plans to con people into spinning the others I have. But my friend Elaine was spinning on her spindle in the hotel room the night before the market and I kept thinking “you know, I should give that another try.” And so, completely ignoring the fact that I had fiber at home, I bought a little bit more.
So not only did I not need more yarn, I did not need more purple yarn, and yet. AND YET.
Thankfully there are no more fiber festivals in my area, nor am I traveling to any, and I’m going to be so busy for the rest of the summer that I won’t have time to think about buying more yarn, so with any luck, I’ll be able to make a dent in this increase. Oops.
lovely oopsies,though!
Thanks! 🙂
Lovely scores! I’m saving all my gorging for Sock Summit! 🙂
That’s a good plan! I can’t wait to see your report from Sock Summit! 🙂
The first yarn is GORGEOUS and totally worth it. I’m on a yarn diet myself, seeing as I’m in the financially disastrous post-college-graduation unemployment stage of my life. So I will live vicariously through yours and other people’s yarn purchases 🙂
I really need to stick to my guns for the rest of the year; possibly even into next year. Occasionally, thinking about the amount of yarn I have sets of mini-panic attacks, and it’s just ridiculous. It’s not quite SABLE… well, unless I get hit by a bus or something, but it’s not beyond reasonable life expectancy. 😉
SO MUCH PRETTY!
I know! That’s why I just had to have them.
that, and I’m ridiculous. 😉
