I had a blast this weekend on my little tour of the Northeast. I started in New York and ended up in western Maryland, seeing old friends, making new friends, and meeting people I knew from the internet. For me, the actual festival was a little overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time, but that wasn’t the main point of the trip. The festival was huge, and nicely spread out, but I had apparently forgotten that I dislike both shopping and crowds, and those two things pretty much summed up the festival for me.
Don’t get me wrong, it was much fun. There were cute sheep getting sheared…
…there were bunnies…
…there were sample spinning wheels (that’s Maria of Subway Knits podcast trying out a Majacraft wheel)…
And let’s face it, there was a lot of yarn.
Outside the Creatively Dyed tent.
And yeah, I totally busted my yarn diet between the festival and a stop in to Knitty City. I know you all are hanging out here to see the yarn.
I’d been craving the Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock in “Honey Fig” since Maria posted a picture of it ages ago, and in my first attempt to find it at Knitty City, I totally missed it. But then Maria went tearing through the stack of Sweet Georgia and found a skein!
I also got a skein of the Tough Love Sock in “Saffron”, a lovely yellow color. I’m planning to make a Damask with this skein.
I bought this skein of Politically Incorrect yarn from my friend Shannon in a destash. The colorway is “You Do Me and I’ll Owe You One.”
After picking up these three skeins and noticing that I really wanted to add more purple and gold to my stash (and didn’t really need either), I made a rule for the weekend that I couldn’t buy any purple or gold yarn at the festival. It was very difficult to walk away from some of the beautiful purple and golds, but I managed.
At the festival, I bought a skein of Creatively Dyed laceweight in this beautiful “Daniel Ridge” colorway. I’m going to use about half of it to knit a Jaali.
I’d been keeping an eye out for Neighborhood Fiber Company for a couple of years now, and Clover Hill had some in their booth. So I splurged and picked up this skein of their Sock yarn in “Rock Creek Park”.
And Sarah, lovely Sarah, bought me a skein of Sanguine Gryphon’s Mithril in “Paesaggio a Bordighera”. I’m going to use it to make a Rock Island shawl.
I also got a good amount of knitting done over the weekend, but I’ll save that for another post. I hope you all had an excellent weekend!
got some lovelies there! Glad you had fun.
Back on the yarn diet now?
Back on the yarn diet now?
Oh yes. I’m a little overwhelmed at just bringing in six new skeins (well, seven, including the one I bought in Rapid City). MUST KNIT FASTER, GOING TO DROWN IN YARN.
mmmmm….. yarn! looks like you had a blast!
I definitely did!
So many pretties!
Isn’t Neighborhood scrumptious? I picked some up at a LYS in DC and I love it!
Yes! A friend of mine in Melbourne had some and I have been coveting it since I saw hers. This was the first time I’d seen it in person, so I had to get a skein. 🙂
