Twelve pairs of socks, an adventure

As I said earlier, I’m planning to knit 12 pairs of socks in 2011; one pair of socks for each month of the year. However, I don’t know if I can actually commit myself to narrowing down my rather extensive queue to only 12 patterns. Somehow, choosing 18 patterns that I want to knit sooner rather than later seems more manageable. (I was originally going to go with 16 patterns, but then I received Around the World in Knitted Socks as a gift from my friend Catherine, and I couldn’t cut two, so we’re going with 18.)

It’s just the way my brain works, I guess. I mean, my Ravelry queue has EIGHT PAGES of socks. Getting this list down to 18 “must-knit” sock patterns is pretty impressive.

These are in no particular order, except the order in which I listed them. Come Jan 1 (maybe Dec 31, who knows), I’ll run a random number generator and let it decide which socks will be the first of my 2011 sock-knitting adventure.

You can learn, babe! There are so many resources out there. Give it a go!

I never thought of just stealing the pattern pics for my wish lists!
Can’t wait to see your pics of the socks. I was excited we would be sock twins, those Nutkins look awesome in the Spice Market. (I have also made them in ShiBui and it is very nice.) Sad to waste your WM on the ankle socks, then again I think ankle socks are just a waste. 😉

I hate pictureless posts, so I check to make sure that the photos are uploaded to either Flickr or Ravelry (or some site like that) before I borrow the URLs. If they’re coming from someone’s domain, I usually won’t borrow them.

And just because a pattern is written as ankle socks doesn’t mean I have to knit them as such! I’d never planned to actually knit them as ankle socks. 😀 I just thought that pattern and the color of my Wollmeise would go so beautifully together. Plus, if I have some left over, I can do something else with it!

  3. I can’t wait to see what you end up knitting!

I’m about to run the random generator now to see what the first pair will be!

  4. Gorgeous choices all around! I’m trying to make 2011 all about socks (knitting wise of course) but I’m cheating a bit and doing some plain stockinette for birthdays. I’ve never actually knit a plain sock before, so I guess it’s about time?
I can’t wait to see all your completed socks.

  5. […] has been in my queue for three years now, and was also on the short list for my 12 Pairs of Socks challenge. So bonus accomplishments for […]
