I was on a finishing kick this weekend. I finished knitting and weaving in ends on my Owls sweater, and I finished my Quill Lace Socks (affectionately called “Walk Like a Zombie Socks”, in homage to the colorway and one of my favorite HorrorPops songs).
The yarn is Fresh from the Cauldron’s “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” colorway on her new Bavarian sock base (I’m told it’s like Wollmeise’s base—I’ve never used Wollmeise, though I have two skeins awaiting their day), and the pattern is Quill Lace Socks by Judith Brodnicki via Knitty.
I made absolutely no modifications to the pattern. I just cast on and went. Both times I cast on, some sort of adventure was going on. For the first sock, I was stuck in the Atlanta airport (again) waiting to find out the future of my flight. The second time, I was at a rock concert, waiting for one of the openers to start playing. Basically, you can’t take me anywhere if you don’t want to be seen with me and my knitting.
I love that the lace pattern is sweet and dainty, very much in line with the timing of Pride and Prejudice, and then there are red splotches which in my head are little bits of zombie that remained after a battle (this makes more sense if you at least have an idea of the premise of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies).
I confess, I found myself wishing that I had a scythe while plotting out these photos.
POLL UPDATE: Vivian is very much in the lead. If you’d like to see me knit something else next, vote!
In case anyone’s curious, the shoes in the above pictures cost a whopping $9 at Target, on clearance. And they’re ridiculously high. And I kind of love them.
Great socks, and FIERCE shoes! 🙂
Thank you, and thank you! 🙂
